About Coach Kyle Padgett

2023  is Coach Kyle Padgett’s 11th season at the helm of the Bishop O’Connell High School baseball program.  This school year will be the seventh he has served as a Health and Physical Education teacher at the school.  Prior to coming to O’Connell, Padgett spent 5 years as an NCAA Division 1 assistant coach at 3 different schools – William and Mary, Wake Forest University, and Duke University.  He spent the summer of 2008 as an assistant coach for the Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod League.  As a player, Padgett was an All-State player at Needham High School (MA) before serving as the starting shortstop for four years at William and Mary.  He was drafted and signed by the Florida Marlins in the 18th round of the MLB Draft in 2005 following his college career and spent three season playing professional baseball before beginning his coaching career.  He has coached over 50 players who have gone on to play professionally and 8 who’ve made it all the way to the Major Leagues including Chicago Cubs pitcher (and Gold Glove Award Winner and MVP of the World Baseball Classic) Marcus Stroman, 2017 Homerun Derby participant Justin Bour, and 2016 World Series Champion Justin Grimm.  He currently lives in Vienna, VA with his wife and three daughters.
