2021 Summer Camp offerings

I am thrilled to announce that the school administration at Bishop O'Connell has approved summer camps to happen in 2021!  I have added more camps this summer than ever before because I know how much we all missed it last summer.  Registration is open!  Please send me any questions you have and please share the camps with friends and family.  Let's make this the most fun summer of camps yet!

SUMMER 2021 YOUTH CAMP - The most fun your little ballplayer will have all summer!

4 Sessions, Monday-Friday, 9AM-2PM, Lunch Option Available, Age 6-14

Session 1 - June 14-18

Session 2 - July 12-16

Session 3 - July 26-30

Session 4 - August 2-6

*The Previously Scheduled Session the Week of June 21 had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict at school.  Sorry for this and I'll be reaching out to those who registered offering a refund or camp credit.**

We blend a little bit of instruction, some drill work to engrain fundamentals, with competitions and games.  The players will be put on teams and compete all week long for the Camp Championship!  Typical day features a morning discussion of the fundamental of the day (throwing, hitting, infield, outfield, pitching all covered), followed by morning warm-up, drills, competitions.  Then we take a quick break, introduce a second fundamental or jump into games depending on the day.  That takes us to lunch break, followed by games in the afternoon.

PROSPECT CAMPS - Get ready for High School Baseball!

Ages 12-16, Monday-Thursday, 2:15-4:00PM

2 Sessions

Session 1 - June 14-17

Session 2 - August 2-5

*The Previously Scheduled Session the Week of June 21 had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict at school.  Sorry for this and I'll be reaching out to those who registered offering a refund or camp credit.**

This camp is a bit more fundamental intensive with the 4 days spent preparing players for what high school coaches are looking for and how they'll coach team and individual fundamentals.  As you advance in the game and get older, the game gets faster and more complex.  This camp gives players a chance to be exposed to some of those things that us coaches find ourselves saying, 'Why wasn't he taught this in little league/travel ball?!' (and believe me when I say it happens at the college level with regularity, too).  It's also a great camp for anyone planning on attending O'Connell and being a part of our baseball program as you'll work with the coaching staff and meet your future classmates and teammates.

3-Day Hitting Camp - The 1 skill that will force your coach to put you in the lineup all the time!

July 7-9, 10AM-12PM

This camp will focus solely on hitting for 3 days.  We'll teach the most efficient mechanics of the swing, talk about individual hitters' differences and styles, and we'll cover a lot of the mental side of hitting.  Hitters will develop a strong understanding of what they're trying to do, how to do it, and how to make adjustments.

Small Group Training - This is new for this summer and is something I've contemplated for a few years.

Monday-Thursday each week following Youth Camp 2:15-3:15PM

I finally have some assistant coaches committed to helping me run these, so I want to give it a try.  These are essentially semi-private lessons for 4 straight days.  It can be challenging to work with every kid during the week of a camp when we have 30-40 kids, so this provides an opportunity to really focus on a few kids and help take their game to the next level.  We will cap these groups at 5 players per coach, and the coach will stick with those 5 players for the hour session.  We will typically have a singular focus each day on a chosen skill (i.e. throwing, ground balls, fly balls, etc.) and will teach the skill thoroughly, do a series of drills on that skill, and work with each player to help them improve on that skill.  I'm excited to see how these go as I think they'll be very helpful to unlock some hidden potential in many players!
